A Vision of Compassion: Vigyan Saroj Care Foundation Restores Sight for 63 Underprivileged Senior Citizen Couples –

A Tribute of Love and Legacy

June 17, 2025 – A Day of Light and Legacy – In a heartwarming display of compassion and dedication, the Vigyan Saroj Care Foundation, led by Dr Megha Singh and Dr. Varsha Thakur, has pledged to provide free cataract surgeries for 100 underprivileged senior citizen couples. Already, 63 couples have had their eyesight restored, thanks to the initiative — bringing not just vision, but hope and dignity back into their lives.

This mission holds deep emotional significance for Dr. Varsha. On June 17, the death anniversary of her beloved parents, Late Shri Vigyan Singh Thakur and Smt. Saroj Thakur, she sponsored surgeries for 11 more couples and hosted Annadanam (community meal) for 200 patients, marking the day not in mourning, but in service and healing.

"This is not just a medical mission — it is my way of honoring my parents, who taught me to serve with heart," said Dr. Varsha, her voice filled with emotion.

The surgeries are conducted in collaboration with Sankara Eye Hospital, renowned for their excellence in ophthalmic care. The same hospital had once restored her father's sight, under the skilled hands of Dr. Umesh, making this partnership deeply personal for her.

With a tireless team of junior doctors, health camps are being held in surrounding rural villages, where potential patients are screened based on urgency. Those selected are brought to the hospital with free transportation, accommodation, meals, surgery, eyeglasses, post-operative kits, and complete aftercare — all fully sponsored by the Foundation.

This collective effort transformed a noble idea into a nationwide act of service. With meticulous planning, grassroots reach, and a spirit of unity, the Vigyan Saroj Care Foundation’s winter relief drive stands as a beacon of hope and humanity.

What sets this initiative apart is not just its scale, but the personal involvement of Dr. Varsha. She visits patients post-surgery, checking in on their wellbeing and encouraging them, offering not just medical aid but emotional support. Her commitment has created a chain of care where every patient is treated like family.

Dr. Varsha encourages the public to come forward and support this noble cause:

“Cataract is curable, but poverty blinds people to care. Every contribution, big or small, can help a senior citizen see their loved ones again.”

The Vigyan Saroj Care Foundation stands as a beacon of hope — reminding us that with compassion, dedication, and vision, we can bring light into the lives of those long living in the shadows.
